ROCK OF ASIAN: Girl Bands To The Rescue

It took me a full day to believe that this headline was real and not just something Tila Tequila got mixed up on her blog:

It refers to South Korea’s plan to use songs and videos from groups like Wonder Girls and Girls Generation to infiltrate and ultimately beat down North Korea.

Girl bands are the new Weapon X? Badass!

From The Chosun Ilbo:

An official in charge of psy ops at the Joint Chiefs of Staff said no decision has been made so far. “It will take months to set up the big screens to use in psychological warfare operations and a wide range of contents will be shown,” the official said. “I don’t know whether songs by girl groups will be included, but there is that chance since pop songs were used in the past.” But he added the content of propaganda broadcasts will not be limited to girl bands.

Our friend Joyce recently introduced us to the vocal stylings of her girl, Pumashock (aka Natalie White), and we’re becoming a bit obsessed.

Cuz here’s the thing. Ms. White has got a voice like butter, million-dollar smile, freaking gorgeous face, swimsuit model body, longstanding devotion to video games (photo above is an homage–can you place it?), deeeeeep affinity for Korean dramas and K-pop… and seems like an all-around, super fun, super nice chick. Are all of these sweet-ass qualities together in one pretty package a common find? Hell no. Is Pumashock, then basically DISGRASIAN’s wet dream? Oh, yes.

Witness, for instance, this near-perfect interpretation of the Wonder Girls “Nobody” (Like, WOW):

And if you think that accent is just a fluke, check out her synthed up interpretasian of Lee Hyori’s “U Go Girl” (Also, like, WOW):

There’s something about her silky, smooth delivery, cheeky winks, and sweet, inviting smile that is ever-so seductive and, well, surprisingly perfect. Sometimes, it’s damn nice to be shocked.

ROCK OF ASIAN: The Wonder Girls v. The Not-So-Wonder Boys

First, the good news.

K-pop girl group Wonder Girls is about to blow up Stateside, because they’re opening for a huge band–recently labeled a “nine-figure franchise”–on the North American leg of its world tour, beginning in 10 days.

Now, for the bad. That huge band they’re opening for happens to be those purity ring-wearing, scarf-abusing, dwarf-resembling, pre-pubescent giney-tickling clit-teases, the Jonas Brothers.

Watch out, ladies, for those ejaculating foam-cannons!!! We hear you can get pregnant that way, or, at the very least, HPV!!!

ROCK OF ASIAN: Wonder Girls

It’s no lie–I’m a sucker for poppity-pop music. Which explains why I’m kinda (very) obsessed with South Korean pop quintet Wonder Girls. They dance in unison! They wear pretty makeup! They’ve got candy voices!

Plus, this fabby, hilarious Motown-inspired video (for the new single, “Nobody”) has been as addictive for me as crack cocaine was, y’know, back in the day. Now you, too, can be hooked!
