Tiger Defamasian

January 23rd, 2008 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Paul Dhaliwal, one of the three victims of the Christmas Day tiger attack at the San Francisco zoo, has admitted to being drunk and stoned while yelling and waving at the caged feline. Likely agitated by the disturbance, the tiger apparently leaped over a wall that was four feet lower than the recommended height. It then attacked the three men, unfortunately killing one. On the day of the incident, the victims portrayed the situation as an unprovoked attack.

This story is just altogether sad and frustrating. The zoo fucked up, the guys fucked up–but the tiger got confused. So why is the cat the one that got the bad rap?

Thanks, Shayera!

Lenuta and Costel, looking slightly freaked out to be in Romania

Reuters reports that a Romanian zoo has finally announced the birth of two Siberian tigers, Lenuta and Costel. Siberian tigers are among the world’s most endangered species, their population scarily reduced by poaching and loss of habitat in their native homes of Northern Russia, China, and North Korea, so think good thoughts for these little guys!!!!

We Should Take a Cue

AP posted this adorable photo of newborn tiger cubs at Jinan Paomaling Wild Animal World in Shandong province today. As is common practice, the mix-breed pup is playing surrogate mom to the rejected tiger cubs. Mixed races, pulling together! I love the spirit.

Just one thing…

“Officials… are so far just calling [the cubs] “One,” “Two” and “Three…”

Awwwwww, what? Surely we can do better than that. How about Larry, Curly, and Moe? How about Bush, Cheney, and Rummy? How about Huey, Dewey, and Louie?

See, it’s not so hard. Let’s give these little ones a little identity, for chrissake.
