We’ve got a lot of love for Portland’s The Slants, a synth-rawk outfit whose dark dance anthems (for reference: check their record Slanted Eyes, Slanted Hearts) trumped The Faint and The Killers in our party playlists loooooong ago.
But they must have known: deep inside, the people even more jiggy energy in them, just waiting to be tapped. The band just released Slants! Slants! Revolution—an album of their tunes, remixed for even more lively party people than us (or funkier partays than ours). Think about rolling with all of your gaysians to da club on Fridays, or rolling large on Hollywood Boulevard after a Depeche Mode concert, or tripping out in baggy jeans in the desert with all of your, ehrm, closest friends–this would be the perfect soundtrack.
Buffalo Daughter, at the music game since before your 16-year-old was born, is recording a new album!
For those who know BD well, this is fantastic news–you should know that they’re about to rock their last 2009 live show in Tokyo, and have been whispering about a new full-length since September.
For those who have not yet discovered the joys of Buffalo Daughter, this is a fab opportunity for you to familiarize yourself with the gleeful dynamics of this Japanese, female-fronted, electro-collage band. Think of it as brilliant samples and atypical juxtapositions, à la Cornelius. And perfect, pretty pop-icity, like Norway’s Annie. Ooh! With the Japanese fun flare of Cibo Matto. All in all: wacky, wacky stuff that you will undoubtedly love by instinct.
But back to the important stuff: NEW BUFFALO DAUGHTER ALBUM NEXT YEAR! Let’s organize a listening party!
My Little Airport, in many ways, could be Jen’s and my dream band. Two adorable Hong Kong sweeties (Ah-P and Nicole) rocking addictive Casio/Twee tunes, obsessed with cute things but charged with a naughty fire. Ever-so sweet and spicy–our favorite combination! In fact, we can’t believe it’s taken us so long to discover them (Thanks, Rameniac, for the video below):
But now that we have, we must urge you to sample some My Little Airport tonight. Pairs well with smoked cheeses, seafoods, sexy Hansel from Basel socks, the film Heavenly Creatures, and the twinkly tunes of Takako Minekawa. Enjoy!
Jen found this Fujiya & Miyagi music video on Buzzfeed last week and I have been obsessed with it ever since. First of all, I love the dope lo-fi synth track, but I’m also enthralled with the animated dice. Maybe it’s because dice remind me of gambling, and gambling reminds me of my aunts, and my aunts remind me of egg rolls, and I love egg rolls. Egg rolls are so delicious.
Just a theory.
