Intern Jasmine‘s birthday is in March, but Jen and I happen to think it’s never too early to start compiling gift ideas for her next celebrasian!
Cuz here’s the deal: MINDstyle has made an actual Manny Pacquiao toy collectible. A frickin’ MANNY PACQUIAO toy. Are they FOR SERIOUS??? Jasmine is gonna freak the eff out! FREAK OUT! It’s so awesome!!!
Those details!!! The belt, the brow, that frown of intimidasian… little Pacman is BADASS.
And not to be a dick, but now that I’ve thought about it… Jasmine, shmasmine! I think we ALL need one of these! When’s our birthday, again?

Happy birthday to Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, aka M.I.A., who turns 34 Friday! The past year has been a busy one for the British-Sri Lankan singer: she started her own record label, got nominated for an Academy Award, killed at the Grammys while 9 months pregnant, had a baby boy and became “Mamma M.I.A.”, and got voted one of the world’s 100 Most Influential People by Time magazine. And all that transpired after M.I.A. announced that she was retiring from performing. Which reminds us, please don’t do that to us again, girl. We need you around to shake shit up, give it a groovy beat, and paint it in Day-Glo colors for many more birthdays to come.
Jen and I rocked the house with M.I.A. at Los Angeles’ hipster haven Echoplex last night, and as always, the lady with lyrics was totally bitchin’ and the walls were shaking with her smooth rhymes and quaking beats. We tried to party like it was 1999 and shake our tailfeathers like we were at rave in 1997–but were totally upstaged by clusters of 100-lb. cutie music nuts adorned in enough gold bicycle shorts, ironic mustaches, and cropped leggings to make Terry Richardson cry.
Bottom line: M.I.A. kicks ass. We love her. And her fans.
Her new album Kala drops August 27 (and having heard it all, I must say it already puts her kick-ass debut LP Arular to shame)– but if you can’t wait, download a sneak peek here.
