ROCK OF ASIAN: Buffalo Daughter, Back In The Studio

October 14th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana
Two girls and a mad synth genius

Buffalo Daughter, at the music game since before your 16-year-old was born, is recording a new album!

For those who know BD well, this is fantastic news–you should know that they’re about to rock their last 2009 live show in Tokyo, and have been whispering about a new full-length since September.

For those who have not yet discovered the joys of Buffalo Daughter, this is a fab opportunity for you to familiarize yourself with the gleeful dynamics of this Japanese, female-fronted, electro-collage band. Think of it as brilliant samples and atypical juxtapositions, à la Cornelius. And perfect, pretty pop-icity, like Norway’s Annie. Ooh! With the Japanese fun flare of Cibo Matto. All in all: wacky, wacky stuff that you will undoubtedly love by instinct.

But back to the important stuff: NEW BUFFALO DAUGHTER ALBUM NEXT YEAR! Let’s organize a listening party!

Imperfect, Indeed

May 20th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Mariah exclusively announced the name of her new album today on Twitter, which is slated to be called Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.

Frankly, we figured after all of our helpful comments regarding her last record, the new LP would have been dedicated to us, and maybe even called DISGRASIAN is the Bestest Blog Ever–but no dice. WTF!?!?

Overall, though, we’re just glad she didn’t follow up E=MC² with a rekkid called U Hotter Than Quantum Theory, Lamb. Or Memoirs of a Hot Geisha. “Glad,” by the way.

Additional note: Think we’re wrong to judge Ms. Carey on her brains? Try “reading” her tweets (if your brain starts to hurt, stop) and we’re sure you’ll feel differently.

Dr. Democracy

March 26th, 2008 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Guns N Roses has taken its sweet-ass time finishing up their ever-forthcoming album, Chinese Democracy, and after over a decade, even the most straggly of believers have given up hope (don’t worry… Jen and I were never really holding our breath, naw mean?).

But Dr. Pepper–a beverage that I love but most people I went to grade school with referred to as “carbonated prune juice–recently upped the ante for Democracy’s release–announcing that they would give a can of Dr. Pepper to every American (except for GNR exes Buckethead and Slash) if the album comes out this year.

I’m not sure what makes this offer least alluring:

1) The promise of free carbonated prune juice (hey, I know I said I love it, but I’m just me).

2) The promise of Chinese Democracy (I’ve certainly never been partial to the title, nor the proposed album art, nor the idea of listening to an album that has been crafted over the course of at least 4 really terrible musical movements).

3) The ugly digs at GNR former members Slash and Buckethead. They moved on! Wouldn’t you?

…Perhaps all of the above?

January 2nd, 2008 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

We’ve been listening to our adorable friend David’s band The Color Turning for like, years, now… but we’re still pretty dang excited about them. They’re currently wrapping a new record and we can’t wait to hear it. Check out TCT’s gentle vocal harmonies and charged beats on MySpace, or peruse the gorgeous photography on their most-chic official website. Trust us… it’ll turn you on.
