DISGRASIAN will be LiveBlogging from the 10th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival this October–they’re seeking the best in Asian/Asian-American cinema, and lawd knows we Asians love to be the best–so we’d be psyched to see your film there.

More importantly: there’s a CASH MUNNY prize for the Jury winner. What better reason to enter? Woot!

The entry deadline is in a month. Here’s the info:

Early Deadline: April 30, 2009 ($25 fee)

LiveBlogging from the Presidential Inaugurasian

January 19th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Hello from Washington, D.C.– our nation’s chilly, beautiful capital!

I’m here this week to celebrate at stuffy panels, earnest documentary screenings, overstuffed, decadent balls, and colossal public events–all in preparation for the moment that Barack Obama says that beautiful Oath of office and closes the door on America’s eight-year Era of Shame.

I’m not the only one excited about the festivities here. Guess who arrived on my flight?

Mr. Bean goes to Washington

It feels like it really began yesterday afternoon, but the streets are buzzing with energy. People are simply going bananas, in a good way! They’re breaking out into “Yes We Can!” chants on the street. They’re partying until 5am! They’re watching CNN EVERYWHERE.

I can barely handle the hullabaloo (this may because I am nursing a monster hangover from showing my “energy” until 7am last night), so instead of shouting my joy out on the street, I’m just kicking it old school with my real friends at the hotel:

Just hangin’–DISGRASIAN girls roll large!

Time to put on my mittens and brave the cold with the newly-formed hordes! It feels like hundreds of thousands of people arrived this morning. Talk to you all soon!

Love,
Diana

LiveBlogging from the Democratic Nasianal Convention

August 25th, 2008 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Hello from Denver!

I’m here at the Democratic National Convention, where the energy, temperature, and constituents are all equally high!

There are folks peddling renewable energy, protesters in trucks decorated with images of half-aborted babies (eek), and lots and lots of freaky hippies decorated in GOODBYE BUSH tees and red, white, and blue buttons. Am I at a meet-and-greet of liberals, or what?

Time to go dig up our pal, Arianna, who is speaking at a function with me (not at the same time) in a couple of hours! Talk to y’all as soon as something fun happens!

Love,
Diana

Kill Your Televasian

From Reuters:

80th annual Oscars head for record low TV ratings
By STEVE GORMAN – Mon Feb 25, 2008

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The U.S. telecast of the 80th annual Oscars, dominated by European stars and movies that played poorly at the box office, appears headed for record low viewership, according to early figures from Nielsen Media Research on Monday.

In terms of actual people watching, the 2003 telecast averaged 33.05 million viewers, the smallest number since 1974, when average audience figures first became available.

The weak ratings for Sunday’s broadcast were no surprise given that most viewers turned the mind-numbing awards ceremony off to instead enjoy the hilarity of DISGRASIAN’s liveblogging on 23/6 instead. Reports that the Academy has already conceived of plans to bitch slap both DISGRASIAN authors and 23/6 editors, for stealing its thunder, are forthcoming.*

*No, of course this story isn’t fully true. Read real talk of The Oscar’s poor performance here.
