AMAZIAN OF THE WEEK! Mike Shinoda

Name: Mike Shinoda
Age: 33
Hails from: LA-ish
Occupation: Artist, musician, record producer
Known for: Staying busy. Shinoda is beloved by some for his decade of rockstardom with rock-hop (hip-rock?) band Linkin Park and side project Fort Minor. Others hail him for his music producing achievements, which include tracks and albums with the likes of Busta Rhymes and X-Ecutioners, and a slate of remixes from Depeche Mode to Metric.
Still others gasp at Shinoda’s art (he’s an Illustration grad of Pasadena’s Art Center, and created a scholarship there five years ago), which is integral to LP’s visual identity. Continue reading AMAZIAN OF THE WEEK! Mike Shinoda

ROCK OF ASIAN: New Wasian
If you were trapped on a deserted island, and you didn’t include Depeche Mode’s Violator in the top ten records you absolutely needed to have with you (never mind that you probably wouldn’t have electricity or a CD player to spin them on, and in the age of iPods who really needs to make these kind of decisions?)… I don’t trust you. Actually, I probably don’t even like you.
Fortunately, my BFF&E Jen is both trustworthy and a huge DM fan. She even recently drew this incredible graffiti picture of herself circa Violator, and its likeness is uncanny:
Jen circa ‘Violator’: Nouveau AND academic… what’s not to like?
Ming and Ping: New Wasian
Oddly, I feel warm and fuzzy, and not violated at all.
Check out their official website here.
Thanks, jRu!

AMAZIAN OF THE WEEK! Alexander Wang
Age: 23 (What?!?)
Occupation: Fashion designer and resident skinny-mini
Known for: dropping out of Parsons to start his own label in 2006, great taste in music (Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” is the current soundtrack to Wang’s website), yummy cashmere sweater dresses, and a kickass fall-winter collection that reminds us of an 80’s Patrick Nagel print (i.e. the cover of Duran Duran’s Rio).
