DISGRASIAN’s Summer Reading: F*ck Yeah Memebon!

August 12th, 2010 | 6 comments | Posted by Diana

We’ll be away from our desks the month of August, carrying on with the non-bloggy aspects of our lives, watching mindless movie blockbusters, and indulging in summery drinks made with generous pours of bourbon. During this month, we’ll be linking each day to a different website that we ♥. Hopefully you’ll discover something delightful and new while we’re gone. If not, you are a serious Captain Crankypants and are probably in dire need of a summery drink made with a generous pour of bourbon.

‘Til September, lovelies.

Memebon, cutest kitty in the world. He once fit in a bowl.

I’m definitely a dog person, but I’m no speciesist. I love any darling animal, even when said animal appears to be a giant severed fish head. And once upon a time, I fell in love with Memebon, a kitten from Cute Overload (one of my morning indulgences, right after Daily Puppy). For years I couldn’t get Memebon’s round face, concerned eyes, and tiny paws out of my head. Memebon. Memebon. He fits in a bowl! He is the cutest kitten that has ever existed! Memebon!

I mean… Continue reading DISGRASIAN’s Summer Reading: F*ck Yeah Memebon!

Apple FTW

May 27th, 2010 | 3 comments | Posted by Jen

On Wednesday, Apple’s market cap moved past Microsoft’s by $3 billion, which had CNN Money declaring Microsoft “no longer the industry’s alpha dog.”

CNN Money interviewed a couple experts on what Microsoft had to do to continue keeping up with the Jobses, with one analyst suggesting:

“They have to continue to try to find other businesses, otherwise growth is always going to be bound by the PC market. Wall Street believes in Apple because Apple continues to put out new products that capture the imaginations of the press and tech pundits. Microsoft just hasn’t been able to come up with a new multi billion dollar business like Apple.”

And while we’re no experts, we are a target demo, as the owners of about a dozen Apple products between us, so here’s another suggestion:

BABEWATCH: Forever 21’s Linda and Esther Chang

April 6th, 2010 | 14 comments | Posted by Jen

Names: Linda Chang and Esther Chang

Ages: 28 and 23

Occupations: Forever 21’s marketing and visuals department heads, respectively

Linda and Esther Chang are the daughters of Don and Jin Sook Chang, the Korean American founders of one of our favorite places on Earth, Forever 21. (Where else can you get a cute, fashion-forward $12 dress, we ask you? A $12 dress!) Like the company’s wares, the Chang sisters are young, fresh, and adorbs. They were recently profiled by the LA Times’ Booth Moore, where we learned the following:

  • They’re best friends.
  • They’re both Ivy League-educated.
  • They work for the family business, which opened its first store in 1984 and, by the end of that year, had grown its sales from $35,000 to $700,000.
  • They go to church with their parents on Sunday.

We tend to hate on people like this–i.e. people who please their Hardass Asian Parents all the time rather than disappoint–but with the Chang sisters, we just can’t. Their devotion to their family and the family business is just so earnest (older sis Linda says things like, “I love it when people come out of our stores being so happy”). And the girls themselves are just too cute.

Then, of course, it all goes back to the fact that the Chang sisters represent the $12 dress. The $12 dress!

We’d Rather Punch Ourselves In The Neck Than Listen To A Jason Mraz Tune, BUT…

December 11th, 2009 | 4 comments | Posted by Diana

…add a ukulele and a munchkin. We melt. We simply melt.

And we forget all about Mraz’s stupid hats and all of that “Mr. A to Z” garbage.

Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. OH!!!!! [wombs a-rumble]

BABEWATCH: Dinky Ninja Bears

December 8th, 2009 | 2 comments | Posted by Diana

Sure, plushies are everywhere. But the Dinky Ninja Bears, which we just discovered this week via Twitter, are something special. Is it the indefinite tummy forms? Their tiny arms? Their lack of mouths? We don’t know! But somehow they perfectly encapsulate the essence of adorably incapable silent ninjas with cute little ears and pseudo-appendages, and we can’t stop loving them.

Pretty Dinky

Asian people love small animals.

That is all you need to know.

Watch, melt…

ROPID: Cuter Than A Baby Prawn

November 6th, 2009 | 4 comments | Posted by Diana

Meet Ropid (Rapid + Robot), a new robot just unveiled by scientists in Japan that jumps, responds to directions…

…and is about 10,396,574 more adorable and fun to watch than your obnoxious little cousin with 1 year of ballet and 4 years of piano lessons under her belt, who your aunt dresses up in stupid party dresses every time there’s the teeniest, mundane family function going on–who she will HUSH AN ENTIRE ROOM FOR (sometimes even an NBA Playoff game) so that the little fucker can sing a song and dance it out, then follow with an encore presentasian of a plunked-out, shitty Sonatina on the piano.

10,396,574 more adorable and fun to watch than your cuz. And you can turn it off.

ROCK OF ASIAN: My Little Airport

August 12th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

My Little Airport, in many ways, could be Jen’s and my dream band. Two adorable Hong Kong sweeties (Ah-P and Nicole) rocking addictive Casio/Twee tunes, obsessed with cute things but charged with a naughty fire. Ever-so sweet and spicy–our favorite combination! In fact, we can’t believe it’s taken us so long to discover them (Thanks, Rameniac, for the video below):

But now that we have, we must urge you to sample some My Little Airport tonight. Pairs well with smoked cheeses, seafoods, sexy Hansel from Basel socks, the film Heavenly Creatures, and the twinkly tunes of Takako Minekawa. Enjoy!

Long Weekend

May 26th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Pretty sure my mind is still at a barbecue. Is anyone else having a hard time getting back into the work swing of things–besides me and this dog?

The little bear costume I intend to buy for Jen’s future offspring looks like this:

…NOT this:

Or–shit, is that baby actually in a monkey costume?

Suri’s not wearing a… sari, is she??

Sari, everybody, I can already tell this is going to be one of those “bad joke” days.

AMAZIAN JR. OF THE WEEK! Bao Xishun’s Baby

October 6th, 2008 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Name: So far, all we know is that he’s the the baby of the world’s tallest man, Bao Xishun. But we quite like the sound of “Baby Bao”

Hails from: Hebei province, China

Occupation: Baby

Known for: Being the first-born son of Bao Xishun and wife Xia Shujuan. Hey, Daddy Bao already gets most of the hype for holding world tecords (Tallest Man In the World, and now, incidentally, Tallest Father), so why bog him down with more accolades?

The way we see it, when you’re the newborn child of the world’s tallest man (and his cute as crumb cake, average-sized spouse), expectasians can be–dare we say it–impossibly high. We’re going to kick off this kid’s spankin’ new life experience by telling him that he’s Amazian no matter what!!! After all, the name Bao reminds us of steamed dumplings, and little dumplings are pretty frickin’ awesome.

So there ya go baby, a no-strings huzzah for you. Doubt that’s gonna ever happen again. Oh well.
