ROCK OF ASIAN: My Compatriots

I’ve been a fan of Jon Caro (center, holding the impossibly cute french bulldog) for a number of years, ever since he emerged on the bumbling SoCal indie scene at the dawn of the oughts with a uniquely earnest pop effort, Stairwell.

You’ve gotta love a guy that devotes his pen and pipes to tunes on the sweeter side, opting for delicate odes rather than angry anthems. It’s kinda like being Malkmus instead of Mould, or Harvey instead of Gordon–not as easy as it looks.

Or maybe it is, for some people.

HARDASS ASIAN PARENTS –: Our mothers and fathers, whom we, despite our achievements and senses of familial duty, are usually disappointing.
DISGAYSIAN –: Shameful member of the tribe who also happens to be gay.
Nipple Slipple –: Peek-a-Boobie!!!
Discrazian –: Shameful member of the tribe who is also crazy.
GONGBANG –: An assault on the ears of gonging sounds that occurs in movies and television whenever someone or something Asian appears on screen. Example, Long Duk Dong in Sixteen Candles.
