DISGRASIAN OF THE WEAK! Qian Feng, Alleged Dog Poisoner

December 4th, 2010 | 3 comments | Posted by Diana

When I was sixteen, my family’s dog, Rocky–a seven-year-old, sweet, chubby Doberman Pinscher–got very ill one afternoon. When I arrived home from school, he was lethargic. Within an hour, he got much worse and was unable to walk, his breath shallow. I took him to the vet and watched as he became weaker and started to show signs of jaundice.

Within hours, my family and I learned that Rocky’s liver was failing. He was going downhill quickly. We raced him to a larger facility in an attempt to rush him into emergency surgery. He didn’t make it there, though; he died in my dad’s arms.

The vets confirmed that Rocky had been poisoned. The rat poison, tucked into treats, had been fed to him the day before. There were no poisons of the kind at our home. And though we have a hunch, we’ll never know for sure who did it to him or why.

I don’t have to tell you this–I know many of you are dog lovers and parents, like Jen and myself–but I would not wish this kind of tragedy on my worst enemy, not even on the most disgraceful DISGRASIAN. Having an animal member of your family taken away from you feels like having your heart ripped out of your chest–the worst part perhaps being that the cruelty isn’t even acted out on you, but rather on something so innocent and undeserving, so unable to plea for help or understand why something bad is happening to them. The pain is indescribable.

When Jen and I read on Angry Asian Man that a Houston man, Qian Feng, had been arrested for plaguing his neighborhood with strychnine-laced cheese balls intended to kill local pet dogs, both of our stomachs tied up in knots. He was caught on video after a woman whose dogs almost died from the cheeseballs installed security cameras, capturing his second attack–I applaud her for taking the legit and legal route to justice, which is hard during such emotional matters.

Grace Park Single-Handedly Saves The Baby Seals

November 5th, 2009 | 8 comments | Posted by Jen

You don’t have to be a bleeding-heart emo vegan with a hard-on for Natalie Portman to think that killing baby seals for their fur is one of the sickest forms of animal cruelty around. But after seeing PETA’s new celebrity ad campaign to end seal slaughter in Canada and some of the douche applicators in it…

Poodles With Imaginasian

August 25th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Okay, okay. I know it’s cruel and unusual (fine, bordering on animal abuse) to force poodles into these crazy nationwide contests of “creative grooming.”

“Hi. My owner, former cast member of ‘The Bugaloos‘, totally hates me.”

But I can’t help but be in awe of some poodle designers’ creativity (Seriously, camel? Horse? Jack Sparrow? Amazing!!).

And how can I possibly choose a favorite between…

I mean, really? I CAN’T! That’s like choosing between tacos and mulitas, Chloe and Balenciaga, Cazadores and Balvenie, The Velvet Underground and The Pixies. There’s simply no point.

Thanks, Eliza!

Michelle Malkin has always reminded me one of those yappy little dogs that has suffered the sad, ugly, unfortunate fate of too much inbreeding. The constant, annoying bark but noticeable lack of bite. The oddly shrunken, slightly fucktarded face. Then there’s that thing where a person is forced to apologize for any kind of associasian: (“It’s my girlfriend’s dog” functions quite like “She’s not the same kind of Asian as me”). There’s also the simple fact that she’s a bitch. And that I think she belongs in a crate.

Because of this, I’ve always kinda assumed that Malkin had a soft spot for little dogs. So I was shocked to see the manner in which she has contested the legitimacy of the infamous YouTube video that depicts a U.S. Marine throwing the puppy off of a cliff, that has been making waves all week. “Disturbing whether the dog is real or fake, dead or alive? Yes,” she writes on her blog. “A hanging offense? No.”

Ever the queen of non sequitur, she proceeds to qualify a theory that the video was faked with the intent to reinforce… soldier hate?

[The] clip is a useful cultural Rorschach test. Those who buy into the soldier-as-monster narrative are up in arms–demanding that the soldiers be hunted down and shot. Just look at the comments section in the YouTube thread.

You’ll find that many academes refer to YouTube comments for citeable research. They’re so factually accurate that we don’t even allow them on DISGRASIAN. But that’s besides the point.

Listen, my cousin is a Marine captain currently serving his time in Iraq–I don’t resent him for this incident. The issue with this horrendous video is not anti-troop sentiment. We support our troops. We are freaked about PTSD. We are horrified that we are destroying our boys’ souls with a war that we shouldn’t have started.

Our bottom line is that the video sickens us. And whether the puppy was dead or alive before it was thrown, or whether worked up YouTube junkies who hate their jobs are misspelling comments about wishing the soldier would rot in hell, none of it is nearly as important as that.

But we’ve got to hand it to Malkin for, as always, missing the point.

SPORTS ILLUSTRASIAN: Michael Vick, What a Waste

July 18th, 2007 | 0 comments | Posted by Jen

There are two things in life that I’ve loved the longest and with the greatest intensity, and that’s dogs and football. When I was seven, already a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and reading the sports pages every day, I used to write things in my diary like, “The Cowboys smeared the queer out of the Buccaneers, 38-7! Today was perfect!” (This was, of course, before I knew that being queer was fabulous and that under no circumstances should anyone have it smeared out of them.) And if you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know how much Diana and I both adore canines.

So it was with sadness and fury that I heard the news yesterday about Falcons’ quarterback Michael Vick–who signed a 10-year, $130 million contract with Atlanta in 2004, making him one of the highest-paid players in football–and was just indicted on charges of staging and sponsoring pit bull death matches at one of his homes. CNN reports:

According to the indictment, dogs that didn’t show enough fighting spirit, or that lost matches, were put to death by a variety of methods, including shooting, drowning, hanging and electrocution. Prosecutors allege that on one occasion earlier this year, Vick participated in killing eight dogs.

Michael Vick’s puppy says, “Help me.”

“Fuck my talent. Fuck my career.”

This Chick is Crazy

May 9th, 2007 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Surfing Digg the other day, I came upon an incredibly disturbing article on Weird Asia News. The pictures above are screen grabs from a video that recently circulated the Chinese webosphere– of a psychotically happy, maniacal girl ripping a live baby duckling apart with her feet. This is her just after the act. The photos were so gruesome that I almost cried.

But then I thought: Fuck tears. I’m angry. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? This bitch is crazy, but worse– she apparently made the video in response to another set of popular images that appeared on the website Crushworld, which depict a woman’s spiked stiletto crushing a small kitten.

I know I don’t have to say it, but everyone involved is totally sick and should be socked in the face! And if this bitch isn’t a DISGRASIAN, I don’t know who is.

You can access the article here, but please be aware that the photos are extremely graphic.
