BIRTHDAY CELEBRASIAN! Dean Cain

July 29th, 2010 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Happy birthday to Dean Cain, who will turn 44 on Saturday!

I remember the first time I laid eyes on this warm-skinned, super-duper man on a classic episode of 90210 when he was the gullible, white-toothed, sexy-eyed Wisconsin boy that bought Brenda Walsh’s bad French act one summer in Paris. I couldn’t believe a guy so dumb and wholesome could also be wicked hot and intriguing, but oh, how he was.

Time has treated this hapa well, which makes me very happy. Why oh why did I ever stop stalking this guy?

Happy birthday to actor Ken Leung, who turns 40 today!

40? Seriously? Somebody card this guy! And may his mysterious gaze and signature smirk continue to woo us from our flat panel boob tubes, for years to come. We’ll never get enough!

Happy birthday to Chanel Iman, whose lanky limbs and luscious lips turned the ripe old age of 20 on Monday!

And since we’ve endured enough Blasian falsehoods for the week, let us celebrate one Blasian truth: this little lady is only going to get better and better and better with age. Y’all know it’s true.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRASIAN! Dustin Nguyen

September 17th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Happy birthday to Dustin Nguyen (the only actor Diana has ever lied about being related to), who turns 47 today! His sultry smirk has made us swoon since the first time the opening credits of 21 Jump Street rolled on our staticky family TV screens–and, quite frankly, that smile might actually be more powerful now.

No better time than Nguyen’s birthday to get active with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which he and wife Angela have been ambassadors for since 2005. It’s the birthday gift that keeps on giving, so give it!

ROCK OF ASIAN: Twisted Sister

July 15th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

I happen to enjoy the fact that Twisted Sister is making strides towards a comeback, even though they were never really at the top tape of my bin (They were kind of a “Pontiac Firebird” band, and I always felt more “Chrysler LeBaron Convertible”). Dee Snider actually entertains me quite consistently as a droopy-faced older gent with a bag full of memories and VH1 sound-byte commentary–much more so than the droopy-faced, garish loudmouth he was in his youth.

When director Ben Kim told us that he and D.P. Jonathan Yi (Ed. note–Two almond-eyed men bossing people around from behind the camera? Yummers!) had helmed a hot of ze presses music video for Twisted Sister’s newest track, “30,” we were pleased as punch.

We really just kinda love their straightforward approach–Simple setting, clean concept: A dramatic dusting off of Marshall stacks and a sweet-ass drum kit. Old metalheads giving it another go.

Fucking great.

And the fact that two of our peeps have the mettle to shoot metal in HD? Even better.

Thanks, Ben!

BIRTHDAY CELEBRASIAN!

April 9th, 2009 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

Happy birthday to Jackie Chan, who turned 55 this week and is still about 3,475 times more ripped than we currently are at the tender ages of um, 19 and 22.

Today, Chan can enjoy the experience of us being gentle and nice to him! Pretty neat, huh? If he would just stop all that wretched clowning, it could happen a helluva lot more often.

ROCK OF ASIAN: Ladytron

June 25th, 2008 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

HOW ON EARTH did we miss the release of a new Ladytron album? It’s been three years since their last full-length, and we must say that our respective collections of silky, femme-fronted electro-pop records (on hand to spin at gadzillions of cool DISGRASIAN house parties) have truly suffered for it.

Well, we shall suffer no more! Velocifero is now available for purchase on Amazon, and boy is it delicious. Like scotch and cheese, Ladytron is clearly getting better with age, maintaining a cool and collected sensibility that doesn’t pander to the skinny-ass-jeans-wearing hipsters flooding most grungy electro-dancefloors.

It doesn’t hurt, of course, that producer/songwriter/keys man Reuben Wu is even more crush-worthy than ever.

Want a taste?

Mmm. Yummy. Like scotch and cheese.

Badass Asian Parenting

March 3rd, 2008 | 0 comments | Posted by Diana

I didn’t blink an eye when I saw that Kazumi Izaki (pictured left) just passed the Japanese board’s license test to become the country’s oldest female boxer at the age of 44.

The Hardass Asian Mother of two told The Star Online:

“After you turn 40, you get far-sighted and you wither physically,” she told reporters after her test bout Thursday. “But I should be able to compensate for it with the other high-level qualities that I have.

Those high-level qualities were not explicitly mentioned in the Star article, but I’ve taken the liberty of compiling a temporary list to help you get the picture:

  • Izaki is very good at “killing with eye lasers.”
  • Izaki can make someone cry purely by saying, “I should never have had you.”
  • Izaki’s not-secret weapon: cutting an opponent off at the knees.
  • Izaki’s super-secret weapon: disappointed eyes.
  • Can Izaki pack a punch? Her husband says, “Her smack feels like a UFC Champ’s punch to the balls.”

Needless to say, I feel quite confident that this lady’s gonna be taking home a belt or two at age 45, 50, 55, and beyond.
