When Intern Jasmine sent us a link to the gent that fashion blogger Mister Mort refers to only as “The Man In The Polyester Suits,” I immediately knew he was this week’s Babewatch babe. For one, I have a weakness for polyester suits, and have owned many in my life (none of which have surfaced in the years that I’ve known Jen, because I’ve secretly believed she would disapprove of my love for synthetic fabrics)–they’re nearly impossible to destroy, always maintain a sharp pleat, are perfect for soul dancing, and always remind me of my grandpa.
But come on, it’s easy to see this grandpa’s multitude of babe-worthy qualities: attention to style and detail, gleeful eyes, ageless skin, lean build, cleanliness, neatness, willingness to play with color, an overall playful vibe and–the best looking thing of all–a good book. After all, a good book in hand is a good look on a man!
But there’s so much more to the Polyester Grandpa than his thoughtful getups and dapper hats. Take, for example that he’s smiling and smizing, like ALL the time. In every photo! The few lines on his face are all smile lines, flanking his rainbow eyes and impish grin. I’ve racked my brain for hours while gazing at an assortment of happy Polyester Grandpa pictures–it occured to me at some point that I’ve never met another Asian grownup that looks quite so jovial.
To get more familiar with Polyester Grandpa also means getting to know Grandpa’s family–sorta–because Grandpa always has a photo album with hand-dated family pictures on hand:
It seems to me that if you have a wonderful family and love the hell out of them, and if you can drink in the simple pleasures of a warm patch on a sunny bench and a few minutes of quiet reading, you’ve got quite a lot to smile about–life, as they say, is good. Polyester Grandpa really seems to have all of those things–which is the most beautiful thing about him.
