DISGRASIAN OF THE WEAK! Kishidan And The Fashion Of Anti-Semitism

March 4th, 2011 | 6 comments | Posted by Diana

To Whom It May Concern (and since that may be unclear to some, we will specifically identify):

Japanese pop group Kishidan,

John Galliano,

Julian Assange, Charlie Sheen and anybody else that’s rocking anti-Semitism like it’s friggin’ socks under heels, HOLD THE FUCK UP. Is it suddenly chic to hate on Jews or something? You dicks!

Oh wait, oh wait, let’s run through the excuses. Y’all didn’t mean to get all anti-Semitic on us. Kishidan didn’t understand and, uh, didn’t intend any “ideological meaning” behind the “outlandish garb” they wore for their MTV Japan “Mega Vector” Interview. Galliano and his theatrical, alcohol-fueled genius isn’t an actual racist. Sheen’s got two Jewish sons! Assange is even “sort of Jewish.”

Okay, then, sorry! Never mind then! We didn’t mean to get all OOC and offended! Now that we’ve got all this “information,” we fully realize that it’s totally okay to make hideous, religiously prejudiced, discriminatory statements sometimes. And hell, everybody’s doing it! What it all comes down to is this: Hating on Jews is okay when you’re drunk, angry, paranoid, culturally ignorant, or know somebody that’s Jewish. Right? Right??

Wrong. That’s TOTAL BULLSHIT. TOTAL BULLSHIT.

QUIT IT.

All best,
DISGRASIAN

The Kishidan thing immediately brought to mind this troubling phenomenon:

Not at all related, I know, but just as damned disheartening.

  2. KISSES__127 says:

Japanese people don’t give the same negative connotation to some “logos” of Nazism. It’s why they said there wasn’t no ideological meaning.

Lately many people “make fun of” the Holocaust, but doesn’t mean they wdo it too. Kishidan didn’t dressed like that with this intention. They always dress like Japanese Bosozoku, and they take some of those symbols.

(This picture is from GTO http://img461.imageshack.us/img461/6384/onizuka8ro.jpg where you can see all that bosozoku boys. Japanese don’t know the true meaning of that. I think they only use it to look like “bad boys”).

I can assure you that, in spite of being artist, they are very good people and really kind with everyone. I’ve meet them, and they are really sad about this stuff, because they didn’t want to offend anyone.

  3. Jen says:

@KISSES__127 “Japanese people don’t give the same negative connotation to some “logos” of Nazism.” Okay, but why not? Because Japan was allied with Nazi Germany in WWII? Because Japan committed its own atrocities during the war–like the Rape of Nanking–that it’s failed to really face up to? Because the genocide of 6 million Jews at the hands of the Nazis doesn’t have enough of a “negative connotation”?

If you’re saying that it’s not Kishidan’s fault that they dressed up like SS soldiers, it’s a cultural thing, then shame on the culture. Not ascribing negative associations to Nazi symbolism is beyond ignorance, it’s willful complicity.

  4. KISSES__127 says:

It could be that, but it still being not Kishidan’s fault. Many people are criticizing them and they don’t deserve to be treated like this. I think that explain how Kishidan are and why did it to people that don’t know about them or haven’t meet them it’s very difficult. But KISSES still supporting them and a lot of people too.

  5. Diana says:

    @Kisses_127 Speaking of willful complicity…

  6. BenEE says:

I agree that the Japanese pop group was being extremely insensitive – and yes, maybe even ignorant – but it’s a stretch to call it anti-semitic. As far as I know, anti-semitism is a hatred and prejudice toward Jewish people – Kishidan weren’t expressing any kind of hatred or prejudice – just ignorance.
