Did Somebody Say ‘Dog Eating Contest’?!
A few months ago, Twitter changed the algorithm behind its Trending Topics feature to reflect what’s “immediately popular” rather than what’s generally popular or most discussed, in order to bring the Twitterverse “the ‘most breaking’ news.”
Or it was all just an elaborate ruse to fuck with Justin Bieber fans, according to, um, Justin Bieber fans.
Regardless of who you Belieb, the folks at Twitter admit that the algorithm is a “work in progress,” which may explain why “Dog Eating Contest” was trending on the 4th of July:
Either people were tweeting about Nathan’s annual Hot Dog Eating Contest or Asians really are taking over everything and forcing our bizarre savage customs onto the good American people like in that Red Dawn movie remake. I vote for the latter because, racism aside, that means WE WIN.
Speaking of Asians and dog-eating, did you hear that Takeru “Kobi” Kobayashi, who sat out this year’s hot dog eating contest because of a contract dispute, got arrested for bum-rushing the Nathan’s competition stage after his rival Joey Chestnut won for the fourth year in a row?
We thought it was a real attention whore move on his part, until we were rightly corrected by one of the DISGRASIAN faithful on–what else?–Twitter:

Wieners and buns! Wieners and buns! Yes, my mind went to the dirty place. Like Siobhan Fahey (Shakespears Sister, Bananarama), “I got a dirty mind.”
@dalianmoon OMG is that a teeny pic of the teeny newbie? Congrats!!!
Thanks! Aria was born on June 17th, weighing 4lbs 7oz. She was premature, born at 32.5 weeks. I was on bed rest for 2 weeks after my water broke, but all is well. She’s a healthy little girl, and was out of the NICU after just over two weeks. We brought her home on the 4th.
