DISGRASIAN OF THE WEAK! Professor Kenneth “Big Baby Kenny” Ng And His Thai Hooker Website

Up until today, Cal State-Northridge Economics professor Kenneth Ng had a website.

Not just any website, mind you, but a Thai sex-tourism one called “Big Baby Kenny” that took you through the, ahem, ins-and-outs of the “Thailand Girl Scene” and promised “No Hidden Agenda, No Censorship, No Bullshit.”

[By "Girl" he means "Hooker."--BULLSHIT RED FLAG #1]

But then people got wind of it and thought, SHOCKINGLY, that it was creepy and inappropriate and, what else? Oh right: creepy. Then Cal State-Northridge said it wouldn’t intervene or discipline Ng because he didn’t run his creepy site using public/University resources. A free speech debate ensued, with Ng as his own most vociferous defender. As he told the LA Daily News:

“I’m not going to let anyone make me take it down. That’s just a personality thing.”

And by “anyone,” Ng did not mean himself, apparently, because earlier today, he actually took down his own site [BULLSHIT RED FLAG #2].  NOT, as Cal State-Northridge’s Provost Harry Hellenbrand said in a statement “because [Ng] considered the subject matter and content as unsuitable for public discourse, public discussion, or public debate,” but “because of the deleterious effect it had on the university’s reputation.”

[Which never occurred to Ng in the entire year during which the site was up, when he was waxing economic about prostitution--"The Thailand Girls Scene is all about expanded opportunities. It allows you to do things that just cannot be done in 'The World' or lowers the cost so much that a guy with a normal income can do things which he could never afford in 'The World'"--a trade that engenders child abuse, violence towards women, and human trafficking in Thailand.--BULLSHIT RED FLAG #3]

No, the reason Ng took down his website is because it was just too good [BULLSHIT RED FLAG #4].  In the only post you can now find on Big Baby Kenny written by Ng–all others have been deleted (although his delusional, grandiose prose lives on in this gem)–the professor writes:

The byline of this site has always been No Hidden Agenda, No Censorship, and No Bullshit.

BigBabyKenny.com continued true this ideal to the very end. Every post and comment ever written and posted was preserved — unedited, undeleted, and uncensored. Everyone had a seat at the table and could write what they wanted, how they wanted, and when they wanted. BigBabyKenny.com accepted and published posts from anyone and everyone about anything having to do with life in Thailand and The Thailand Girl Scene. Any interested reader could go back and read everything and anything that had ever been written there. History was not censored, redacted, or altered in any way. Everything that had been said and done was recorded and preserved..

Unfortunately, BigBabyKenny got too good for it’s own good.

The articles were too good at laying bare the economic underpinnings, the inter-personal dynamics, the nuts and bolts, and even the humorous side of The Thailand Girl Scene. [Ahh! It's the economy, stupid!--BULLSHIT RED FLAG #5]

The discussion of The Thailand Girl Scene was too interesting and too revealing about the realites of life in a third world country where the usual ways women advance themselves socially and economically in The World are blocked off. ["Part of the problem?  More like, part of the solution!" *pats self on back*--BULLSHIT RED FLAG #6]

The photography was too good at documenting the nitty gritty nature of the various nooks and crannies of the Thailand nightlife industry. [Highly unlikely.  Everyone's tourist photos--sex or no--suck ass except to themselves.--BULLSHIT RED FLAG #7]

The realities of life, love, dating, marriage, and sex in Southeast Asia and the politically correct western centric view of the world clashed. [i.e. "I am a fucking loser who can only get sex by paying bottom dollar for it in countries like Thailand."--BULLSHIT RED FLAG #8]

Better to live in a make believe fairy tale western fantasy version of Southeast Asian culture and society than deal with an accurate, well documented truth. [Because buying sex in Thailand from a prostitute who's basically forced into what she's doing because of extreme poverty is keepin' it real. Um, yeah.--BULLSHIT RED FLAG #9]

Unfortunately, because I am a professor at a big public university, the popularity and publicity surrounding the ideas, the subjects and questions discussed and debated, and, of course, the ground breaking photography at BigBabyKenny.com became so great that the site had to be turned off. ["Groundbreaking"? And "great"?--BULLSHIT RED FLAG #10]

No Hidden Agenda, No Censorship, and No Bullshit?

More like, No Clue, No Sense of Right and Wrong, and No Fucking Shame.

It’s really sexy to exploit women when they’re down. What a sick, predatory perv.

  2. harald hardrada says:

Jen, you know how to make me laugh: your comments are outstanding — your best is ‘paying bottom dollar’

  3. Kwan says:

Its in the Philippines too. I used to shake my head at the fugly white dudes in Manila and I even got into a fight with an Australian porn promoter at some ritzy jazz club cause I was joking with his escorts about how lame he was and eventually he figured it out. After I put him on his head I got a free drink from the bar, it was AWESOME! They should invent a new tourist attraction, go bash sex-tourists tourism for free beer!

  4. askingforit says:

While western middle class values are being howled out here, in the usual knee jerk fashion. I would dare voice that the VAST majority of That prostitution takes place is between Thais themselves. What Prof. Ng is writing about is sad but true. But we must never forget that the reality on the ground on all second and third world countries is hard to reconcile with “enlightened” western middle class values. And screaming it from the roof tops does not make the situation more right or wrong. Truth is nobody gives a sh*t about “us” or our pro-feminist values over there. Thailand has had issues with home grown hookers for centuries. King Rama V had around 100 wives. Second wives are not unusual, and the entire economic elite in Thailand is in on the take on Hilton Hotel sized brothels. Houses which are hard to comprehend to outsiders. Screaming at Ng is missing the point, unless shooting the messenger is cool these days. What he describes is sadly the truth. What needs to be addressed is the position of women in SEA and NOT random Westerners writing about it.
When girls are “programmed” that they are worth less than their brothers, and to make up for it they MUST earn some money to help the family they are very likely to go into prostitution, earning at times big bucks, buying their families houses, fridges, medical care, food clothes etc….. I wish to see any Westerners or our borderline hysterical girls here step into that situation and make sense of the whole in Thailand. It is like telling an Arab that beating his wife is really not all that cool, or maybe the stoning of his daughter for sleeping with the boyfriend she loves isn’t fly either.
The world ain’t black and white. That is the beauty of it all.

  5. liam says:

it’s all over. i was in the military and every port we hit up has hookers. shit is sad. as long as there are lonely, pathetic dudes with no morals, there’s gonna be hookers willing to give themselves up for cash.

  6. liam says:

.. and they don’t even have to be lonely, i knew dudes with wives that get hookers. i don’t understand that shit.

  7. Jen says:

@askingforit Do you honestly believe that Kenneth Ng is just a “messenger”? Is he really only documentarian of sad truths, as you say, when he writes this:

“The naysayers will say its creepy to be hanging around the Muariti Shrine, hitting on the emotionally vulnerable girls desperately praying and paying Buddha for a better love life but I beg to differ” (link)

    Or this:

“Other Thailand Nightlife Blogs blow a lot of smoke and frequently play fast and loose with the truth to promote their hidden agendas. Here we try to blow away the smokescreens other sites are blowing to obfuscate the truth. All to serve the higher purpose of getting laid better, cheaper, and more efficiently” from the since deleted http://bigbabykenny.com/?p=605 (link)

    This:

“Start with a compliment,” Ng advises. Perhaps something along the lines of “You have the cutest little titties,” he suggests. (link)

    And this:

[Ng] does, however, write about how difficult it is to effectively negotiate with a “half or sometimes fully naked teenage girl” when she’s “expertly gyrating” on a man’s lap. (link)

This isn’t merely documentary or observations by some agenda-less truthseeker. (Although, YES, the difficulty of having a naked teenage girl gyrating on your junk while trying to talk money is UNDOUBTEDLY something that is sad but true, I’ll give you that.)

And when you say “What needs to be addressed is the position of women in SEA and NOT random Westerners writing about it,” aren’t you forgetting a) Kenneth Ng is a “random Westerner” writing about this and b) encouraging sex tourism in Thailand–not to mention haggling with prostitutes to get a cheaper price–only reinforces the second-class position of women there? I mean, how better to “program” girls to believe they’re worth less than their brothers than to actually attach a price tag to them? How about attaching a price to them and then asking them to lower that price, like Ng advised on his blog?

But thanks for the lecture on truth and beauty. I’ve learned so many things. Like, that King Rama V had 100 wives, and the world isn’t black and white, and some people still believe in the Victorian notion that women with an opinion are “hysterical.” It’s been enlightening (in quotes)!

  8. harald hardrada says:

Jen, you make your point by using wit — had you not made me laugh, it would have seemed like preaching

what folks who go to thailand to get laid don’t realize is that the hookers in bangkok largely come from the very provinces where the prevalence of aids among young women is higher than nearly everywhere else in the world — but warning folks about such risks would be as useless as putting warning labels on packs of cigarettes

  9. Jen says:

    @harald Thank you!

@Kwan You continue to be my hero.

  10. jdelloro says:

this piece kicked ass:) hit it on the head

Being the crusader of free speech that you claim to be, can you explain why you removed that previous post?

Your claim above is: No Hidden Agenda, No Censorship, No Bullshit

    Are we playing politics now?

    Is this censorship?

Am I the lucky person to be the first to be censored on your site?

If so, this is bull shit!

May I politely ask for your explanation?

    Thank you

And here’s the second censorship today!
