AMAZIAN OF THE WEEK! Mike Shinoda
Name: Mike Shinoda
Age: 33
Hails from: LA-ish
Occupation: Artist, musician, record producer
Known for: Staying busy. Shinoda is beloved by some for his decade of rockstardom with rock-hop (hip-rock?) band Linkin Park and side project Fort Minor. Others hail him for his music producing achievements, which include tracks and albums with the likes of Busta Rhymes and X-Ecutioners, and a slate of remixes from Depeche Mode to Metric.
Still others gasp at Shinoda’s art (he’s an Illustration grad of Pasadena’s Art Center, and created a scholarship there five years ago), which is integral to LP’s visual identity. Shinoda’s work has been featured in solo exhibits (read Giant Robot publisher Eric Nakamura’s notes on the artist’s recent show, Glorious Excess Dies, which drew crowds last year at the Japanese American National Museum), album art and shoes.
Basically, he’s everywhere and everything, like Kim Kardashian and/or God (whoever you subscribe to).
It’s no wonder, then, that Shinoda will be honored by the legendary East West Players at their 44th Anniversary celebrasian tonight! (If you aren’t familiar with the good work of EWP, check out their history–you’ll come to realize that every Amazian you’ve ever seen on stage or screen has performed on their stage or served on their board.)
Like we said, the man is everywhere. We can’t think of a person more deserving of the honor (except the other three honorees, hehehe).

My American History teacher played Fort Minor’s “Kenji”, which was Mike’s tribute to his family’s legacy of Japanese-American internment during WWII. Glad to say, it at least touched a chord with the classmates — yes, the non-Asians too.
Love this man very much

i was surprisingly quite impressed by his acceptance speech, acknowledging that his creativity wasn’t necessarily based on, or inspired by, his “ethnic” grouping, yet praising those who use their talents for the greater good of that “group”.
Meet him once…nothing good today.
@astrobuddha I thought his acceptance speech was lovely as well, and really identified with it. He’s fantastic and very warm. Couldn’t be nicer or smarter.
Saw him perform at a Fort Minor show in SF in ’06. Kudos to him!!!
