President Obama: You Better, You Better, You Bet
Hi President Obama,
We hear from David Axelrod that during tonight’s State of the Union, you will ask Congress to repeal the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
We’ll be watching and listening. Sure hope Axelrod isn’t fucking around.
Good luck with the speech! Knock ‘em dead.
xoxo,

Though I was glad he did actually say something about repealing DADT, I was disappointed that he said it this way: “This year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are…” This statement implies that gays & lesbians are not already serving. They are. They come home from multiple tours of duty and are handed the “thank you” of a dishonorable or general discharge because of being outed.
I know this policy will eventually be overturned, but I wonder what, if any, reparations will be made to correct damage done to so many American service personnel who have had to check “Dishonorable” on a job application.
