DISGRASIAN OF THE WEAK! Hak-Shing William Tam
Hak-Shing William Tam, secretary of the Christian Evangelical Group called American Return to God Prayer Movement and official California Prop 8 Backer, testified as a hostile witness yesterday in the lawsuit to overturn the ban on same-sex marriage.

Hak-Shing William Tam
In a piece published today on the galvanizasian of Bay Area Chinese evangelicals in opposition to same-sex marriage, the NYT discussed Tam’s testimony, which was solicited by plaintiff’s attorneys to prove the success in passing Prop 8 was “born of virulent homophobia.” Though Tam refused multiple requests for an interview, the Times highlighted a selection from one of his widely-distributed Web essays, which basically argues that “acceptance” of homosexuality kicks off multiple slippery slopes to mass destruction.
From NYT:
“In a macro environment in which homosexuality is gradually accepted as being normal, child molesting by gays is gradually being viewed as normal in academia. Children who were subjected to sexual abuse only know to socialize with other men through sex. When they grow up, they would do the same to other children by molesting children of the same sex. Therefore, gay people grow in numbers even as most of them do not have children of their own.”
On the stand, his tone did not waver. HuffPo commented on some of his testimony:
Under questioning by Boies, Tam also said he agreed with a statement on the Web site for the Chinese-American Christian group that said if same-sex marriage was treated as a civil right, “so would pedophilia, polygamy and incest.”
“And that is what you were telling people in encouraging them to vote for Proposition 8?” Boies asked.
“Yes,” Tam answered.
Tam said he drew that conclusion after reading an Internet article that claimed incest and polygamy were legal in the Netherlands, a country where same-same marriages became legal in 2001.
Boies: “You are saying here that after same-sex marriage was legalized, the Netherlands legalized incest and polygamy?”
Tam: “Yeah, look at the date, Polygamy happened afterward.”
“Who told you that? Where did you get that idea,” Boies asked incredulously.
“It’s the Internet,” he said. “Another person in the organization found it and he showed me it. … I looked at the document and I thought it was true.”
Polygamy is not legal in the Netherlands, but the idea that it is became an urban myth of sorts in 2005 after a man and two women signed a private “cohabitation contract” while wearing wedding garb. Consensual incest between adults is no longer prosecuted in the Netherlands, but close relatives are not allowed to wed.
We kinda think Tam could have at least shown due diligence by referencing the flawless resource Wikipedia, for crying out loud (Ed note: Please, please, please note sarcasm). This display of the activist’s logic leads us to believe that he’s not only ignorant, but damn stupid too.
A stupid, ignorant Asian? We don’t like to think they exist but hey, there’s a reason we started the blog.

Reading that made me feel sick and angry. Associating homosexuality with incest, polygamy and sexual abuse? What an ignorant asshole!
I’ve heard these kinds of stupid claims for so long that I just want to curl up on the sofa at their utterance.
Several years ago Louisville, KY passed a Fairness Ordinance protecting Gays & Lesbians against work and housing discrimination. One of the members of their council stated that he didn’t feel that such an ordinance was necessary until he heard the testimonies of hate at the numerous hearings. A population subject to such virulent hatred clearly needed protection.
Regardless of the battle at hand the arguments are the same. Decades later, the arguments are still baseless diatribes of hate that cross all lines of class, race and gender…and familial ties. Makes me tired. I know I’m not alone here.
