AMAZIANS OF THE WEEK! California Federal Judge Appointees Jacqueline Nguyen, Edward Chen and Dolly Gee
Occupations: LA County Superior Court Judge (Nguyen), U.S. Magistrate Judge (Chen), and Law Partner (Gee)
Known for: Reprzenting! Traditionally, Asian-American judges have been woefully underrepresented in federal courts. (Which is sooo weird since we’re kind of a judge-y people.) But in the last 10 days, President Obama has appointed four new federal judges for California, and three of them–Nguyen, Chen, and Gee–are Asian. In the wake of Sonia Sotomayor’s swearing in as the U.S. Supreme Court’s first Latino justice, this gives us hope that one day we’ll see one of our own presiding over the highest court in the country. Until then, we’ll keep pretending that Sotomayor’s one of us!
