The U.S. Department of State released a shocking document this week, which contained of a conversatsian that took place between Henry Kissinger and Chairman Mao in 1973. During the exchange, Mao proposed a bizarre solution to their respective countries’ poor trade relasians: giving away women.
“The trade between our two countries at present is very pitiful,” Mao said. “You know China is a very poor country. We don’t have much. What we have in excess is women.”
Kissinger responded jokingly by saying there were no quotas or tariffs for women.
“So if you want them we can give a few of those to you, some tens of thousands,” Mao replied. Later in the conversation, he offered 10 million.
Not that Mao wasn’t capable of something this outrageous, but we were a little skeptical when we read this. Further on in the transcript, Mao even admits that his comments are “nonsense.” So why publish this document if it’s possibly just a tasteless joke? And why now?
If this conversation actually took place, it’s some really fucked up shit; if it didn’t or it’s being taken out of context for political reasons, it’s some really fucked up shit.
