The LA Times gave a full report on all of the fun float activity that occurred at this year’s annual Rose Parade which, as always, delivered gobs of robust flowery action and merry sashaying down Pasadena’s Colorado Blvd.
In response to the brightly colored float depicting the forthcoming 2008 Olympics in Beijing, however, human rights protesters let their manpower do the talking by protesting with signs. Because their threat was anticipated, the picketers were unable to make as big of an impact as they’d hoped, but they did rain on the parade of some attendees:
“Human rights are a big violation in China,” said Katie Schwarzenbach, born and raised in Pasadena. “But my rights are being violated here in Pasadena. They’re blocking my view. It’s not appropriate.”
Touché, Ms. Schwarzenbach! You’ve made a brilliant comparison, and apples to apples at that. Like I always say, “Human rights in China, Shmuman rights in China! Bring on the floats!!!”
