In a stunning move this week, Jackie Chan apologized for being an Uncle Tam on his personal website, writing, “I’m so sorry to all the people I’ve hurt, especially Jen and Diana of DISGRASIAN.”*
He went on to denounce the Rush Hour franchise, saying that, after making the first movie:
…I felt very disappointed because it was a movie I didn’t appreciate and I did not like the action scenes involved. I felt the style of action was too Americanized and I didn’t understand the American humor.
Jackoff said he made the sequel because he was offered an “irresistible” sum of money, and he did the third for the fans, despite major reservations. The AP reports:
“I spent four months making (Rush Hour 3) and I still don’t fully understand the humor,” he said, adding the comedic scenes may be lost on Asian audiences as well.
