The Sports Round-up for Round-Eyes, Slant-Eyes, and Everyone In-Between
Yao and Ye, Sittin’ in a Tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G
Yao Ming and Ye Li, a player on the Chinese women’s basketball team, were married yesterday in Shanghai. Here’s hoping their marital bliss lasts forever…or at least longer than you-know-who’s. I have a feeling that the 6’2″ Ye will set Yao’s 7’6″ ass straight if the need arises.
Watching relief pitcher Hideki “A-OK” Okajima play this year has been a pure delight. His 1.00 ERA is a big reason why the Red Sox bullpen has the lowest ERA (2.77) and why Boston has the best record in baseball. Middle relievers are the unsung heroes of the game. They don’t have the rock star-status of being a starter or a closer, and yet they are usually brought into a game inheriting somebody else’s disaster and then asked to fix it, for one inning or one batter even. That’s fucking sexy.
Bi-ig Girls, They Don’t Do-o-ope
21 year-old Zhang Wenxiu set an “Asian record” (I don’t really know what that means) at the Chinese National Championships in the hammer throw, beating her fellow competitors by nearly 10 meters.
Not trying to start any rumors, but hammer throwing has a history of being intertwined with doping. I hope Zhang is just naturally big-boned and keepin’ it clean.
