The International Herald Tribune reported last week that Crown Princess Masako of Japan would not be joining her husband, Crown Prince Naruhito, heir to the
utterly useless throne, on a trip to Mongolia because she is “still recovering from a stress-induced ailment.” The Princess has reportedly been suffering from depression for the last four years due in part to her failure to “produce an heir” (read: give birth to a son). Japan has an Imperial Household Law that enforces agnatic primogeniture–allowing only men to ascend the throne, that is.
And, as if to pour salt in the wound, Naruhito’s younger brother’s wife, Princess Kiko, gave birth to a son last year, “forestalling a succession crisis.”
Before Kiko gave birth to a son, there had been talk in Japan of amending the succession law. But guess who decided to shut that down in January?
Which is to say, this
douchebag guy really really, no, I mean really, LOVES WOMEN.
